This piece is inspired by Jimi Hendrix Experience’s 1968 song “1983 a merman I should turn to be” where Hendrix sings about his desire to escape the war-torn world.

In the song, there’s a line that goes “Giant pencil and lip-stick tube shaped things continue to rain and cause screaming pain.” which describes the heavy artillery used in wars.

We wanted to bring this song back to now and positioned Dutch Tulip Financial serves as an imaginary veterans pension fund as the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine shows how wars continue to cause human suffering and how Hendrix’s message is sadly, still very much relevant.
