The Humanly Possible piece is inspired by Herbert Bayer’s 1932 surrealist work “Humanly Impossible” which is one of the first examples of photo editing technology as it displays him holding a part of his arm that’s been cut off.
Fast forward to the 21st century, advanced CRISPR technology now actually enables scientists to cut and edit human genes, conceptually similar to Herbert Bayer’s work.
CRISPR makes it possible to “cut off and rearrange” DNA sequences within organisms.
The groundbreaking technology is being used to bioengineer crops to enhance yield and has been experimentally used on a human patient to treat her sickle cell disease.
However, there have been calls for strict ethical guidelines for the tech as humans aren’t prepared for the implications of the enormous potential (it could eventually create new species) of the technology.
Dutch Tulip Financial serves as a fund that specializes in bio life science technology in this scenario.
